Gansu is located in the western region of China which spans an area of 45 square kilometers. Gansu can be called Long or Gan. It has a population of over 26 million, among whom most are of Hui and Han descent. The other ethnic groups in Gansu are Kazak, Mongolian, Tibetan, Hui, Dongxiang, Tu and Manchu.

The silk road had once passed Gansu. Most famous cultural relics are located along the road between Tang and Han which stretches 1600km. Among them are Mogao cave, Great Wall of Jiayugaun, five springs mountain of Lanzhou, white tower mountain and so forth.

Gansu do not only offers attractive scenic spots where green mountain and clear water are everywhere but it also boasts beautiful sunsets, snow mountains, and even glaciers. The Hui and Tibet people are also features of Gansu province as well. You can feel a sense of history when traveling through the old silk road. Some of the projects are well known in China such as Liujiaxia hydroelectric (power) station and Jiuquan Satellite launch center.

Gansu Province Highlights

The most popular food in Gansu is hand-made beef noodles. It spread throughout Gansu province since emperor Guanxu. An old Hui man named Mazibao was the pioneer of it. Now it has become widely known all over the world. The local people are fond of it because it is not only cheap but also delicious. Beef, chili oil, deep green tender garlic shoots, and coriander are among the ingredients .The food makes one only to ask for more.

Within the boundaries of Linxia peaks is the river valley, and the mountains and rivers are grand. The environment is exquisite and is rich in tourist attractions. There are many scenic sites here such as Liujiaxia, the splendid spirit temple (binglingshi), the long life view (changshouguan), the red garden (hongyuan), east  palace (donggongguan), the Lianhua mountain, the pine call rock(mingsongyan) and so on. The numerous scenic spots here inspires the imagination

Gansu Weather

Let’s take a look at the weather condition here in Gansu province.
Gansu Province is located between the main climatic region intermediate belt, the weather pattern is extremely complex. Throughout the year, the average temperature ranges from -1 to 15 degree Celsius. in January the temperature fluctuates between -14 to 3 degrees, while in July it fluctuates between 11 to 27 degrees.

The Gansu Corridor and the Beishan Mountains region’s temperature differs greatly. Temperature during the day varies widely, and there is a saying goes like this; you have to put on the fur-lined coat in the morning while wear only a thin shirt at noon .

The Gansu region is broad, the weather pattern is diverse, and the species are rich. It has the advantage of developing diversified management and agriculture. The entire province has a farmland of 74,850,000 Chinese acres,  which is the sixth largest in China. Gansu is one of five big pastoral regions with a prairie area of 249,000,000 Chinese acres. The sunshine is long and the diurnal temperature difference is great which contributes to high production and high quality agriculture

Gansu is a historical, glorious multi-cultural province, and has a rich cultural heritage highlighted by the style of its unique natural landscape and the colorful provincial character and style. The ancient Silk Road extends more than 1600 kilometers, and it is known as the famous “gold traveling line”.

The entire province had discovered more than 10,700 cultural relic spots, among them, 43 are state-level cultural relic preservations, and 446 are provincial level cultural relic preservations. Dunhuang Mogao Caves has been listed by the United Nations UNESCO as world culture inheritances. What’s more, Maiji rock cave was named as “the Eastern sculpture hall”. The desert scenery, the prairie glacier and the provincial character and style and so on also enjoy a good reputation everywhere by its unique charm.

Gansu Linxia Hui

The Linxia Hui tribe autonomous prefecture is located upstream of the Yellow River, north west of Gansu Province. Total area is 8169 square kilometers with a population 1,590,000. From The Qin and Han Dynasty it has acted as the important highway of the Silk Road where culture is develop. Linxia is the place which various ethnic groups live together.

Muslim in Linxia made important contribution to the dissemination and the development during the long historical flow of Islamism inheritance. They received praise from all Muslim religions. Among them there has emerged the national hero, the patriotic military officer, the poet, the writer and the artist.

The Linxia history is glorious and the culture is brilliant. The Neolithic Age created the majiayao culture, the Qijia culture, the horse depot culture and the temple hollow culture. Among the tens of thousands of unearthed cultural relics, many are rarely found in the world. Linxia has also obtained the name: “township of the painted pottery".
