Taiwan Travel Guide

Taiwan Travel: Cities of Note

The island nation of Taiwan is alive with cities, as well as home to stunning natural beauty.  There are numerous cities in the nation for your exploration and enjoyment, each offering something slightly different from the others.  What cities are worth your exploration?  What will you find in these cities?  Here are a few of the top cities on the island, as well as what they provide to visitors.

Taipei City

Located in the north part of the island, Taipei is the capital of Taiwan, as well as the most populous city on the island.  Millions of travelers every year visit Taipei for business and recreation, shopping and fantastic dining.  Long known as a shipping and business hub of the eastern world, Taipei is now gaining a well-deserved reputation as a luxury destination, offering shopping, dining and sightseeing opportunities to rival even Old New York.

Hsinchu

Hsinchu is the oldest city in northern Taiwan, dating back nearly 400 years.  It is also the technology center of the nation, with the Hsinchu Science Park offering numerous technology companies, semiconductor manufacturers and more.  In fact, this area can be easily compared to Silicon Valley in the US.  The city is also famed for glass production, providing numerous beautiful craft items and even industrial glass products to Taiwan and the world.

Kaohsiung

The second largest city in Taiwan, Kaohsiung is located on the southern half of the island.  This city is home to numerous shipping concerns and is a massive hub for travel and manufacturer shipping.  The deep harbor, incredible temperate weather and fine populace combine to make this a great place to add to any trip to Taiwan.

Puli

Located in the heart of the island, Puli is more a town than a city.  However, it is the prime spot for exploring the center of the nation.  The local spring water is reputed to have many health benefits, thus it is bottled and sold.  In addition, the valley offers numerous ways to enjoy the natural world.  Hiking trails snake through the valley, while Sun Lake is also nearby, providing more enjoyment.  Puli is also the wine center of Taiwan, providing visitors with easy access to fantastic vintages.

A visit to Taiwan should include these cities, as well as many others.  There are resort cities and industrial cities that dot the island nation, providing access to anything you want.  Whether you want to relax on a sun-drenched beach, beneath swaying palms or explore the urban jungle, finding shopping trophies, you will discover it all in Taiwan.
