Taiwan National Museum & Aquarium

A Visit to the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium

One of the most popular places to visit when traveling to Taiwan is the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium. Children and adults alike will enjoy all of the different creatures and exhibits that you can see. You can have fun and learn at the same time.

The museum is separated into different sections so that it is easy for anyone to find exactly what they want in the museum.

Waters of Taiwan

Here, you can see a variety of recreated scenes that look just like their counterparts in the wild. You can see waterfalls, a scene from a high mountain stream and a middle river, a reservoir, and the water's edge, as well as all of the different aquatic life that lives there. The dioramas are incredibly detailed and look like a true cross section of the land. You can see how oysters are farmed too, which is quite an interesting spectacle in itself.

This area will give you a very good idea about the different types of aquatic terrain that one can find throughout Taiwan.

Coral Kingdom Pavilion

This interesting area allows you to see coral in a variety of stages, from the coral near the surface of the water to coral much deeper in the sea. You can learn about how coral is formed and just why it is so important to the worlds' oceans.

You will also find a fun underwater tunnel, as well as an exhibit dedicated to cave creatures such as crabs and congers. The underwater tunnel is an amazing way to view the coral, and you can learn all the habits of the cave dwellers while staying completely dry.

Also in the Coral Kingdom Pavilion, you can enter the Sunken Ship Adventure and see the different kinds of creatures that inhabit shipwrecks.

Make sure you visit the whale pool as well to see a variety of dolphins and whales. Then head over to the visiting stand, where you can listen to the caretakers talk about their charges, including how they care for them and how they breed them.

The museum offers so much more to the visitor that just the above exhibits. It is well worth the price of admission.

The National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium is a wonderful place to visit while on vacation in Taiwan, especially if you are traveling with children or have even a slight interest in the wondrous marine world that covers most of the planet. You won't regret your trip.
