Xian City Guide

Today, Xian is a world famous tourism city offering tourists a rich selection of historical artifacts and cultural relics. Visiting sites such as the Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses, the Banpo Village remains, and the Mausoleum of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, you can really get a glimpse into Chinese civilization's long and rich history.

Xian Terra Cotta Army

The Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang was discovered in 1974, when nine local farmers were digging a well, and discovered a large pit of life-sized Chinese warriors and horses. The first site was built with earth and timber, measuring 210 meters long, 60 meters wide, and 4.6 to 6.5 meters high. This pit contained 6,000 TerraCotta soldiers.

Xian Bell Tower and Drum Tower

The Xian Bell Tower is located at the center of the huge intersection between Beidajie (north main road) and Dongdajie (east main road), and the Drum tower is located about 200 meters west of the Bell Tower.

Xian City Wall

The Tang Dynasty had originally built city walls around Xian. As the cultural, economical, and political center, Xian was a city of strategic military importance. It was the city of 13 ancient Chinese Dynasties, including Tang Dynasty.

Xian Big Wild Goose Pagoda

In 652AD a Buddhist pilgrim named Xuan Zang arranged for the building of the Big Wild Goose (Da Yan) Pagoda to preserve hundreds of volumes of Buddhist scriptures which he brough from India. The original pagoda was built with an India style that was 5 levels tall. In 701 to 704, the pagoda was rebuilt to seven stories tall. Today, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda is 64.5m tall with seven stories.
