Shanghai Ocean Aquarium

Spend a Day at the Shanghai Ocean Aquarium

A nice way to spend a relaxing day while in the wonderful city of Shanghai is by heading to the Shanghai Ocean Aquarium. It is easy to get to from anywhere in the city, whether you are taking the bus, taxi, or subway, and you will find that it offers a lot of entertainment. The aquarium is also home to the longest underwater tunnel in the world.

The Shanghai Ocean Aquarium is divided into 9 distinct parts.

China Zone

Here you can see some of the endangered Chinese aquatic animals. Some of the creatures you can see here are the Chinese alligator, Chinese sturgeon, and the giant Chinese salamander. These salamanders can grow to be nearly six feet long!

South American Zone

In the South American Zone, you will find a host of creatures from the Amazon River area. Some of these animals include arapaima, the lung fish, and the electric eel. These are some of the strangest marine creatures around.

Australian Zone

Some unique creatures can be found in the Australian Zone. Here you can marvel at the sawfish and the archerfish. The archerfish feeds by shooting a stream of water from its mouth and knocking nearby insects into the water. It is fascinating.

Africa Zone

A variety of fish from the Dark Continent can be found in the Africa Zone. One of the most popular fish you will encounter is the cichlid, which has very beautiful colors.

Southeast Asia Zone

Here, you can see the incredible walking catfish and the Chinese water dragon, which is able to remain underwater for up to 25 minutes.

Cold Water Zone

You can view a spotted seal at the underwater viewing area in the Cold Water Zone. Watching them swim and play is quite relaxing.

Antarctic Zone

Everyone loves penguins, and you get to watch them and all of their crazy antics in the Antarctic Zone.

Sea and Shore Zone

You can view a large variety of species here, including seahorses, crabs, and sea dragons.

Ocean Zone

Some of the most impressive creatures can be seen in the Ocean Zone. There, you can see the sand tiger shark, the nurse shark, and the spotted eagle ray.

When you decide to vacation in Shanghai, you are definitely going to want to make the aquarium a part of your trip. Don't forget to visit HotelsCombined.com to find the very best deals on all of the hotels in the area.
