Tour Attraction of Guiyang

In Guiyang City, there are many interesting and worthwhile scenic spots for tourists to visit. If you have enough time, you can visit all of them.

Baihua Lake Scenic Area (百花湖风景名胜区)

Baihua Lake is a well-known tourist attraction. It belongs to the provincial-level scenic spot which is attached to the Chu Chang Town (朱昌镇). This town is the northern entrance to Baihua Lake Scenic Area and is an important place for economic activities. It is also the main developing zone for this scenic area.

Baihua Lake, near the Chu Chang Town, is 22 kilometers away from Guiyang City. It is famous for its beautiful lakes. This scenic area has another name called “Little Guilin”, because its scenery is much like that of “Li River” of Guilin. There are more than 100 small islands in the middle of the lake. This scenic spot divides into three parts: Middle Lake, South Lake and North Lake. The middle of the lake is wide, but the upstream and the downstream have been a long and narrow valley that stretches for 10 miles. When you reach the upstream, you will find both sides of green trees close so nearly that it seems to form a thin strip of sky (一线天). In the scenic area, there are more than 50 sceneries, 23 of which are now opened to tourists, such as overlooking the Pin Ocean, Two Monkeys Guarding the Garden, Kwan-yin Cavity on the Maoli Hill, Hongwu Temple on the Moon Hill, and Birds Island. In spring or winter, this Birds Island is crowded with so many birds. How magnificent this spectacle is!

In the middle of the lake, there are three small villages. Baihua Lake is a good place for tourists to be away from a hot place in the summer and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Tourists here have some entertainments, including boating, swimming and playing in the water.

Hongfeng Lake

Hongfeng Lake belongs to a national key scenic spot. It is located in the center of Guizhou Plateau with a total area of 200 square kilometers. It is known as a shining pearl of Guizhou Plateau. In the late of 1950, local people prepared to construct a power station near a river, so they had to cut the river. From there on, this river that was cut is called Honghu Lake. Now it is the largest artificial lake in the boundary of Guizhou. This lake covers 57.2 square kilometers with the capacity of 602 million cubic meters. Lying in hilly areas, this lake has spread over 170 islands with different shapes, thus it has another reputation – “Plateau Island”. Most of these islands which have cavities flock together. Some cavities link with the lake, forming underground cave-like underwater lake. It shows wonderful scenery.

Mountains, water, forests and cavities form a natural landscape perfectly. The surface of the lake is wide and clean; the bay of it is winding and beautiful; the cavities hide in the islands are exotic; and the forests are luxuriant and full of flowers. The Karst Forest in the lake naturally divided the Hongfeng Lake into four parts: North Lake, Middle Lake, South Lake and Back Lake. In 1981, Hongfeng Lake was officially designated a scenic area. In 1988, it was announced a national key scenic spot by the State Council.

In Dong and Miao minorities scenic areas of Hongfeng Lake, there are many ethnic villages, including Dong, Miao and Buyi Villages. Their lifestyles are fascinating. Tourists here can see minority’s architectural art, drink Lanmen wine of Dong minority and Lanlu wine of Miao minority and experience other hospitable etiquette. Especially, tourists have a chance to take part in the “Land wind evening” every Saturday.
